Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has drawn the ire of Nigerians after a video of him dancing to the viral ‘One Corner’ song emerged online.
‘One Corner’ is a record by Ghanaian artiste Patapaa which is followed by an interesting dance style which has become very popular on social media.
When
the chorus of the song- a repetition of the phrase ‘One Corner’- comes
on, people dash to a corner to dance to the record by rhythmically
moving their hips in sexualised dance movements.
Videos of the dancing pattern to the record which have gone viral online have split opinions among Nigerians.
Because
the video originated from Ghanaian, some Nigerians have frowned on
following the trend of their West African neighbours while some others
have criticised the sexual reference of the record.
So there was outrage when a video of Super Eagles stars Iheanacho and Chidozie Awaziem doing the dance to the record emerged online.
In the video that was shot at the Le Méridien Hotel in Uyo where the Super Eagles are staying ahead of the game against Zambia,
the players are seen jumping on furniture at the corners of the room to
partake in the dance to the amusement of their teammates.
Nigerians didn’t take it likely as they condemn the act.
“It
simply means those 2 guys are idiots. No wonder Iheanacho depreciates
technically. The madness of that demonic dance has caught him. Shame.,” a certain Adebola Lawal said on the comment section of sirwaylly.blogspot.com Facebook post of the video.
“Iheanacho!!!!!
You have committed a huge sin by taking part in this useless Ghanain
dance madness. Only one thing can atone for this and that is scoring 5
goals against the Zambians on Saturday to ensure we qualify for the
world cup, otherwise...,” another Facebook user, Femi Lawal also said.
“See
ehnnn, if we don't win that match on Saturday, we will make sure they
dance "one corner" straight to Ghana and deport them from there...
Naaaansense,” a certain Chf Nze Josah-Dannyboy added.
“I
just pray we don't loose on Saturday. Iheanocho should stay on the
bench throughout the duration of the match. Chai and I don go bet say
Nigeria go win,” Debem Amaechi wrote.
“See wetn this grown up man dey do Some Nigerians are good in stupid things. This song has no meaning,” Chukwu Ndubuisi Prosper.
“This
madness needs to be curtailed before it gets so into peoples head. One
day na mama go come back from work see her little boy & girl doing
one corner on top each other, just smh!” Cynthia Chinelo Mbadugha added.
“In fact, Kelechi and Awaziem should be decamped immediately and not take part in the game morrow to dancing to this evil tune,” Ikenwa Nnabuogor said.
It wasn’t all negative from Nigerians, some-albeit very few on the
post- believe the players have the right to have a little fun in camp.
“So
just because they have a match to play having a Lil fun is a crime
now.na wa for some people..u guys should stop those ur stupid comments
and let dem b abeg.one corner or no corner dance..they will still have
fun and they will win against Zambians,” Tamah Barbz said.
“They're doing if fr fun. Stop call em names. Ppl are too judgemental,” a Sylvia Matilda Sesay added.
Iheanacho and his Super Eagles teammates will be hoping to dance after they face Zambia on Saturday, October 7 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
