Mr Ganiyu Okanlawon, Special Adviser to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode on
Food Security, who represented the governor at the occasion said that
the production of the loaf demonstrated the state government’s
commitment to boost food security in the state.
“The
production of the specially-made loaf from coconut is a demonstration
of the state government’s commitment to promote the coconut value chain
in the state.
“This development
is a step in the right direction in realising the full potential
derivable from coconut and making the state a food secured place,’’ he said.
Okanlawon said that Coconut had been scientifically proven to have a lot of medicinal value when consumed on a regular basis.
According to him, Coconut can be used for quick healing of wounds, cough and the prevention of cancer.
“ However, the consumption of coconut products is still limited thus making its medicinal value less exploited.
“But
with the introduction of coconut in bread production, it will go a long
way in ensuring the consumption of coconut by a large proportion of the
populace,’’ he said.
Okanlawon
listed coconut oil, coconut cream, soap, coconut water, hair cream,
coconut body cream, coconut candy and many others, as other products
that could be produced from coconut, aside bread.
