Success in the Champions League and Euro 2016 - and a host of goals - earned the Portuguese star the distinction of being voted the world's premier forward over the past year
GOAL 50
Real Madrid hitman Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the world’s best forward of 2016 after winning the Goal 50.
Having ended the 2014-15 season empty-handed, Madrid surged back under the stewardship of Zinedine Zidane to claim their 11th Champions League title.
And that triumph would have been unimaginable without Ronaldo, who scored no less than 16 goals and netted the winning penalty to down Atletico Madrid in the final.
The Portugal captain then went on to play a talismanic role in his nation's first-ever title at Euro 2016, coming to his side's rescue on many occasions on the way to a final victory over hosts France.
The top five of the Goal 50 were all Spain-based attackers as La Liga's sharpshooters dominated the voting.
Luis Suarez, who broke a six-season Ronaldo-Messi monopoly on the Pichichi Trophy with his 40 Liga goals in 2015-16, finished second, while Atletico's French star Antoine Griezmann completed the podium.
Lionel Messi only placed fourth, while another Real Madrid star Gareth Bale took fifth position after his exploits for both club and country.
